The Spits Foundation enables free, curiosity-driven research by supporting talented early-career scientists at Amsterdam UMC, the Netherlands Cancer Institute, and affiliated institutes.
Our focus is on supporting research in immunology and vaccinology - fields that play an essential role in combating disease and improving public health.
What we contribute to:
> Free, curiosity-driven research by talented scientists at the start of their careers.
The foundation is not-for-profit and operates entirely in the service of science and societal progress.
The board of the Spits Foundation consists of dedicated professionals with strong ties to the scientific community.
Endowment and disbursement
The foundation's endowment consists of donations from supporters. The endowment may be invested in order to keep funding future projects.
Key principles:
> No active fundraising policy is pursued, but donations are warmly welcomed.
> A portion of the endowment may be held as a continuity reserve to safeguard long-term support.
> Our aim is to apply the annual return on the endowment to support research within our objective.
> If necessary the board may decide to draw on (part of) the endowment.

The Spits Foundation applies a careful and transparent selection process for funding research projects. The foundation supports researchers who have recently completed their PhD and are still in the early stages of their career. Applications may be submitted up to a maximum of five years after PhD completion. In specific circumstances, such as parental leave, an extension of this period may be requested.
